Reflections from Orientation: Building Legacy with Goldman Sachs Black in Business
Earlier this month, I had the honor of traveling to New Jersey to begin orientation for the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women: Black in Business Program. Over the course of three days, I experienced a whirlwind of inspiration; from connecting with powerhouse women entrepreneurs to hopping on a ferry over to the Goldman Sachs New York office for a beautiful reception. It was the kind of start that makes you pause, reflect, and realize you’re stepping into something transformational.
Cohort 8 by the Numbers
Orientation wasn’t just about logistics, it was about understanding the power of the collective we’re stepping into. Here’s what I learned about Cohort 8:
314 women strong — the largest cohort to date
Representing 37 states across the country
Collectively generating over $34M in revenue
These numbers aren’t just statistics. They are proof of the economic impact Black women entrepreneurs are already making, and a glimpse into the even greater impact we’ll create together with the right resources and support.
Why This Program Matters
We are in a season where industries are doubling down on stripping away opportunities for Black women. That reality makes spaces like this even more necessary. This program is a reminder that our voices, our businesses, and our leadership are not just needed; they’re essential. Goldman Sachs has not only acknowledged this but chosen to invest in it. For that, I am deeply grateful.
The Power of Community
One of the highlights of orientation was the community itself. The women in this room were nothing short of brilliant. Each with unique experiences, industries, and visions for the future. Together, we represented innovation, resilience, and ambition in action.
A special shout-out to Growth Group #17! My circle of accountability and encouragement throughout this journey. In just a few short days, I was reminded how powerful it is to be surrounded by women who understand the challenges of entrepreneurship and are equally committed to pushing forward.
Gratitude and Acknowledgements
I want to take a moment to say thank you to Goldman Sachs for pouring into us. Thank you for building a robust curriculum and for partnering with leaders who are committed to seeing us succeed.
And a very personal thank you to Erica Burkhalter, who encouraged me to apply. Because of your push, I’m here today — growing, learning, and ready to expand my vision for what’s possible.
Looking Ahead
Orientation was just the beginning. Over the next few weeks leading up to graduation, I’m excited to dig deeper into the tools and strategies that will not only elevate my business but allow me to leave a lasting legacy for my family and community.
Here’s to what’s ahead, to the women of Cohort 8, and to building businesses that build legacies.
