The Power of Project Management in Wellness: Behind the Scenes of Revive Refresh
Imagine planning an annual event that serves over 75 guests, brings together caregivers for a day of support and community, and carries the weight of both emotional and logistical complexity. Now imagine doing all of that while also being a full-time caregiver yourself.
That’s the reality for the Dementia Care Warriors founder Veronica Shanklin. Revive Refresh, a powerful annual event that offers dementia caregivers a day to exhale, feel supported, and recharge in the best way possible . This year, The PM Suite had the honor of stepping in to help bring structure, strategy, and breathing room to a mission that matters.
The Challenges Nonprofits Face
If you’ve ever led a nonprofit, you know event planning can feel like an uphill climb:
Limited staff and resources
Wearing all the hats (programming, fundraising, marketing, logistics… all at once)
Constantly reacting to deadlines instead of getting ahead of them
No centralized system to track who’s doing what
The emotional bandwidth it takes to lead while navigating personal responsibilities, in this case, caregiving for a loved one
It’s no wonder so many nonprofits find themselves scrambling in the final weeks before an event. But it doesn’t have to be that way.
Why Bringing On a Project Manager Is a Game-Changer
A great project manager doesn’t just make to-do lists, they create structure, accountability, and a clear path forward. More importantly, they create space for leaders to operate in their zone of genius.
For Revive Refresh 2025, that meant:
Having a project plan ready and execution underway 2 months earlier than in previous years
Giving the founder the time and space to raise more money single-handedly than she ever has before for this event
Dividing responsibilities so no one person was overextended or overwhelmed
This was a major win, not just for the planning team, but for the caregivers who will benefit from a more intentional, well-prepared experience.
